How Google made their money
What if the unthinkable happened and Google never existed? Your information is now scattered all over the internet, to look for information for your project due in a couple of hours you’ll either search through a billion books in the library or look at the chaotic internet. Seems terrifying. This is exactly what Larry Page and Sergey Brin took advantage of.
Initially, the internet was a kind of web, with information just floating around; completely unorganised. Larry Page and Sergey Brin, the founders of Google, took advantage of this, curated this information in the form of search results and formed the Google search engine.
Google started off on the 4th of September 1998, and ever since it has only grown. It has evolved from just a search engine to now a place where one can get a plethora of information, advertise your business, keep track of your health, look at the intensity of traffic in your area and more. The world is on your fingertips. The company that once needed its founders to ask their friends and family for $1m to start, is now earning more than a billion dollars every year ($181.69 bn)! Now this is what is called a successful startup. Its many acquisitions have contributed to its enormous market share with Maps, YouTube, the Android system and more.
This giant gets most of its revenue from their AdSense program. Apart from these, it gets revenue from many online as well as offline investments like Google Apps, their self driving cars and more. Their contribution to the Android system too helps them generate their revenue. With the correct and strategic investments and an ingenious idea, the company is now an inseparable part of everyone’s life! Their ability to always keep it fresh has allowed them to stay relevant even though they started over a couple of decades ago.
